There’s really not a lot we know yet. But here I gather what I’ve seen so far!
Some speculations about gameplay style, and some background to the art direction during the GBCP work on the guild.
Earlier estimates informally placed Lumberjacks release during 2nd quarter of this year, but now it sounds more likely that we’ll see them released a bit later. Hopefully during Q3 rather than Q4, but it seems it’s to early to tell for sure.
This short info below is what we got from the last SFG blogpost 2024-04-07 and it brings a little rain on the Lumberjack parade. Still great to know that it’s all still in the works though!
“We’re working with the GBCP on development of the Lumberjacks as a minor guild for the Masons. There’s a lot of moving parts to releasing a whole new minor guild, so while we encourage you to watch this space, you might be watching it for a little while yet.
There’s not a lot else to say about this for now, other than it’s best to consider the timescale on the Lumberjacks as measured in months, rather than weeks.”
There was a leak earlier this year due to a misunderstanding, so we know that Flint and vet Chisel will most likely be the crossover models from the Masons Guild that can play for Lumberjacks.
Informal statements about Lumberjacks include som gameplay speculations. All of this is subject to change, but will likely still be somewhat relevant even though parts of the team may be changed when GBCP and SFG finalize everything.
“A more offensive kill focused Masons, that focuses on out of activation movement, but is less tanky.
Auras layered primarily offensive, meaning they help to fight or play ball.
Let’s just say that this captain is the strong one. Probably as tough as the crust of the earth is.”
So that all sounds really interesting! Looking forward to hearing more about that!
About the artwork
Below is also info snagged from the GBCP Discord. Informal and still subject to change probably, but relevant and interesting nontheless 🙂
“Some of the artwork GBCP has made was absolutely inspired by an indigenous creator for a different miniature game. There was a a big effort made to approach the character design in a way that was cognizant of indigenous representation and attempted to avoid stereotyped depictions. It was something very important to all of us on GBCP Steering.”
Here some examples of the iterations:
“The leash was a request from the team. My indigenous advisor would have preferred to keep the chain as a more forceful symbol of past subjugation, but the GBCP team just did not feel so well with it.”
The consulted person with indigenous ties consented to share some details, but wants to stay anonymous.
“They are from the Northern Ute Tribe, namely the Unitah Tribe and living in the reservation. They mentioned that the artwork reminds them of a fusion of their ancestors and of tribes from further north, the Arapaho from the WindRiver reservation in Wyoming.”
Below are some more generalized inspiration imagery that may or may not be reflected in the final Lumberjacks Guild.
Really looking forward to seeing more about all of this. For me personally I’m especially hyped about Lumberjacks, since Masons was my first guild, and have been my main guild for on and of since always.
Love to the Beaver!
As soon as there is any kind of more news, it will be all over The Bench.
That is a promise!
