Yesterday on discord, some people threw around some thoughts about potential teams from the various Homelands nations.
It started with The Inspiring Hat setting out to make a team for each nation. Homelands is a really fun format to fiddle with, and here in this post I gathered all the teams Hat posted and some bits and pieces of what was talked about.
I was so sad that I missed the conversation!
Combined with links to my own thoughts about it that I posted a while back, at least we have some really nice weekend reading! 😀
The Inspiring Hat
OK, so, Homelands…
There’s loads of potential teams to be made. But it’s extra interesting to look at a couple of countries, which only have 1 captain or 1 mascot choice, i.e. Valentia (Salt), Ethraynne (Smoke), Numa (Yukai / Tentacles) and Castelliya (Truffles).
But I guess I’ll try and make teams for every country (and people can tell me I’m wrong and why).

Valentia
Rivet, Salt, Granite, Ghast, Chisel, Sugar
Rivet to give Granite, Ghast and Chisel TAC 7 and to give Chisel and Ghast momentous damage everywhere. Sugar to provide DMG buff and potentially fire in a snapshot.
Salt is either running with the ball, or retrieving the ball and passing to Sugar for said snapshot. Rivet’s Tow will also help with Ghast and Granite’s slow jog.

Ethraynne
Smoke, Soot, Wick, Phosphor, v.Fangtooth, v.Velocity
Quite locked with Smoke and Soot (as Scum has zero synergy with Smoke), so I just bring Wick and Phosphor who also have synergy with Smoke.
Then a bruiser in v.Fangers (that can also help in the ball-play department through Potbellied Pass) and an allrounder in v.Velocity that can either provide a KD and Lend a Hand to set up for Phosphor or Fangers, or help retrieving balls and scoring goals.

Indar
Steeljaw, Marbles, Flea, Ratchet, Rundaas, Silence
The only other squaddie possible is Fallow and there are no Planters in the Indar line-up, so she’s a dead pick. When looking at the other options, Flea really wants to have a strong mascot to play around with which means Marbles most of the time.
Rundaas and Steeljaw together is just amazing. Ratchet and Silence provide ranged damage support while staying behind the defensive trapline and Marbles’ countercharge.
Marbles with +2 TAC and +1 DMG (and all the other possible debuffs on enemy models) would basically just mean “killer monkey time”.

Figo
Corbelli, Wrecker, Ikaros, Angel, Greyscales, Skulk
I’m struggling on the Figo one. I guess I’ll go this way. Just hunt the ball and go for 3-0.

Numasa
Yukai, Tentacles, Spade, Fathom, Hag, Mataagi

Comment by Tambourine Man: Numa is terrifying. Oops all the good ballers with the best captain. I don’t think Numa has a bad 6. Maybe Burnish but even then he’s a battery.

Skald
v.Boar, Pepper, v.Katalyst, Spice, Kraken, Beacon
Just big body central, honestly. Strong control with Hearth/Kraken/Brick, some condition tech in Digger, and v.Boar and v.Kat kill things. But I might go v.Ox over Spice; drag with Whirling Chains is bonkers.
Comment by Isvan: Kraken Drag to set up boar/kat is nasty. I think Beacon is also autoinclude. Beacon + Kraken with other 2″ models is plenty of control. I assume boar won’t ever get a chance to legendary, but if it happens then yeah it’s very silly. I’d probably play Vitriol for the last slot tbh.

Maldriven
Tapper, Quaff, Millstone, Hooper, Amber, Anvil

Blackheart, Coin, Farris, Bolt, Azimuth, Cast
Here it is Ducky.
Comment by Tambourine Man: Footballheart works well here. Or Windfinder and you just play turbo 2-2. Or Scalpel, and you can do a gross amount of pushing. Zero bad captain choice. Having 4 stellar squaddies and Coin means it does not matter, you play who you like. Boltheart is a fun time.
Comment by Isvan: I don’t think Cast is that good there tbh. She’s alright but you have no burning. The problem is also that almost all your models are influence greedy. I guess Farris/Bolt are OK but Cast, Azimuth and BH/Scalpel all want full stacks.

I went Windfinder, Coin Azimuth, Cast, Culverin and Cutlass. Went 2-1 and the game I lost I went down 12-10. Cast was my mvp when I played. Full Speed Ahead on Cast is scary. Scored all my goals and got most of my kills.

Raedland
v.Greede, v.Spigot, Horizon, Flint, Ferrite or maybe
Hammer, Peck, Spigot, Colossus, Graves, Mallet

Herder, Pride, Casket, Ploughman, Tater, Ram. I feel like between Casket time and Herder’s Legendary you can get absurdly ahead in any fight and also just score on demand. One takeout each, ok I’m up 4-0.

And then we ran out of teams for this time. Can you spot which are left? Wanna send me a team and I’ll post about it? 😀
Anyways, great fun to read the thoughts here. Hopefully some day I’ll get to actually play a Homelands Cup event. Right now we’re still too few for that in my local area, but I still have hope that it’ll grow in the future.
