Another list! Yes indeed. A while back, the ever inspiring Mr Hat made another of his neat lists.
I love those, they help me and others like me (assuming I’m not perfectly unique in this π ) to evaluate and consider aspects of the game and it’s tactics, that otherwise would be a lot more difficult. Not hard to understand, but just saying, these things make a difference and I like it.
Keep it up Hat! π
Before we dive into the list, both Hat and most others who have debated it, agree that choice of Captain is only one part of what determines if you want to start kicking or recieving. It is often talked about as if it is a binary choice depending on captain, but it really isn’t.
We will elaborate a little more on that further below, but here is the list!

So naturally everyone didn’t agree on this when it was first posted. It still is a great resource for getting just a tad deeper knowledge of the game, but don’t take the list as “this is how to always play them”.
While some captains have a very clear preference to always be better when kicking or always be better when recieving, many captains play great with both. They might need to act differently, but can handle either situation well.
Examples of important aspects of kicking/recieving other than choice of Captain:
– What is the Guild matchup (if facing a guild with a clear preference, I may want to negate my opponent)
– What the Terrain is like (if it is one sided or something is really beneficial, you’ll want to kick)
– Who I’m playing against (do I know their style of play and can use that for example?)
Some examples of important thoughts to evaluate are “Do they want last activation? Do they want someone up the pitch, or do they want the ball? Does their tech allow them to efficiently kick/receive?”
After some debating and anecdotes, some changes could be made, and I saved that as a separate list. The list below is a mix of the opinions of several people, and evaluating other things as well as choice of captain is still a key element. π
Happy guildballin’ everyone!
