Navigators vs Brewers
“My first game back since before Covid, and honestly pretty satisfied with it. Especially since I don’t think I’ve ever played Navs and they’re different enough from Fish that even my hazy memories of that matchup don’t always apply.”
~Ultador
In the voice of a match Commentator/Announcer:
Good evening mob football fans!
It’s a beautiful day in the Free Cities as the freebooting Navigators play host to a Brewers side that have not had much chance to be on the pitch together recently.
The Navigators are all the usual suspects when a bit of treasure goes missing over the horizon, Captain Windfinder with her trusty avian companion Wander lead out the rest of the squad: Azimuth playing as the back defender, Ebb as the box to box midfielder, speedy winger Horizon, and the talented Fathom up front at the 9.
The Brewers under returning manager Ultador seem to have gone back to basics after the long break in play. Tapper wears the captain’s armband today and leads out a squad of bruisers looking for mayhem. Mash and Spigot are starting at centre back, with the fiery Stoker playing the 8 to link the backfield with the attacking element of the captain and his perennial partner in public house pugilism Hooper. The ever loyal and all around good boy Quaff is trotting alongside with a cask of spirits around his neck for any Brewer in need of a mid match pick me up.
Brewers have won the coin toss and elected to kick off to the home side. The Aqua blue wearing crowd is whipping themselves into a frenzy as Tapper jogs up to midfield to kick off towards a wall on the left side of the Navigators backfield. Horizon runs up and grabs the ball before making a massive dodge back to the Navigators formation and passing the ball to striker Fathom. Quaff runs over to his buddy Spigot and brings him a Pick Me Up before wandering up towards Tapper. Wander, not to be outdone by the opposing mascot flys up to Guide Azimuth forwards. With a target for violence finally in range Stoker sprints up the pitch to send a Flame Jet at the burly Navigator enforcer. Midfielder Ebb moves up to support Azimuth from cover.
Mash walks forward to block off a potential attacking lane on the right of the Brewers formation and Azimuth extinguishes the fire clinging to him as he attempts to get Mash Netted and on the ground but the Brewers back Resiliently shakes the net off and keeps his feet
With Azimuth occupied with his ranged assault on Mash the Brewers captain sees his moment, passes Hooper and Spigot some of his special Old Jake’s and jogs in to lay an old fashioned brewhouse beatdown on the overextended sailor. His first attack on the seemingly Poised Gladiator knocks Azimuth head over heels and Tapper’s next two attacks have such a Commanding Aura that it clearly shows the Drunks that Azimuth is a Marked Target while pushing some damage through on the downed Spyglass. Tapper’s last swing hurts his target as it hooks him out of cover.
With the mid pitch presence of Tapper committed to the developing scrum Windfinder runs forward before charting a Perfect Course to get her injured crewmate away from the nascent Barroom Brawl that Tapper has started and Fathom up in range of a potential goal run. The brazen buccaneer follows up by rushing Mash then saying “Eye Spy a Brewer on his back” and getting the crowd and Momentum solidly behind her team as she dodges away. Hooper, not about to let a Marked Target get away, Heroically charges forward and Shoves The Boot In as he absolutely savages the prone Azimuth.
With the rest of her team clearing the way, Fathom shows why she’s known as the Waverunner as she Acrobatically sprints across nearly the entire pitch and takes a swing at Quaff while Dodging by to tap it in for the first goal of the match.
The yellow clad visitors’ section roars in outrage as the goal kick towards Spigot takes an insanely unlucky bounce and ends up back at the feet of Fathom, the supporters baying for the defending Spigot to avenge the goal already scored and prevent an easy second one putting the match almost out of reach. Spigot, fortified by his Pick Me Up from Quaff and just as angry, crosses the short distance with chaos in his eyes and sends the Spyglass striker sprawling as the ball goes flying from the violence of his challenge.
Just as the Brewers faithful are raising their voices to celebrate the coming beating they’re silenced in disbelief as the ricocheting ball rolls to a stop right at the base of the Brewers goalpost in the most improbable series of scatters this announcer has ever seen. Spigot, distracted by the bout of bad luck, struggles to get even a little damage done to the Floored Fathom.
(End of round 1)

Momentum slightly favors the Navs but the Brewers show some serious initiative and initiate a Gengenpress. Even then the Navigators, in what seems to be almost a coin flip, manage to seize the Initiative after seeing What A Strike their forward had just made and all seem to be hunting for a goal of the month contender of their own.
Fathom clambers to her feet and Acrobatically dodges out of danger and to the ball while covering her second dodge with a swing that gets some Momentum behind her as she picks the ball up and follows up one of the most impressive goals of the month with one of the easiest of the year.

Brewers kick the ball up towards the scrum in the middle of the pitch and the ball scatters into no man’s land. Hooper, taking advantage of his team being in a Gengenpress and seeing his team on the ropes down 8-0 shows an incredible amount of True Grit and stomps down on the badly wounded Azimuth to send him to the Medical tent, jogs forward grabbing the ball along his way to the last line of Spyglass defense, the midfielder Ebb.
Hooper, not to be denied when his Guild needs him the most, gets right up in Ebb’s face and knocks him down as he uses the Momentum of his swing to spin and send a strike into the goal at the edge of his range.
A stunning 6 point play! 8-6 Navigators.

Navigators kick the ball out to the far right of the pitch and the Spyglass Captain realizes she needs to put this game away before the Brewers can turn Hooper’s heroics into a full blown comeback. She goes Full Speed Ahead and sprints around to pick up the ball and takes advantage of some fast ground to get right up onto the prone Mash before beating on him more for the Momentum of the crowd than any damage as she dodges forward and taking a long range shot that finds the goal to put an end to the Brewers rally.
Final score, Navigators 12 – Brewers 6.

And there we have it, that’s a good one.
Have a great day on the pitch everyone!
