Last year when Adepticon happened (a huge gaming convention in the US) the hype for Guild Ball was huge, at least for all of us that were already deeply embedded in the GB community. Last year’s Balance Update was one of the biggest ever, and basically everyone felt like they had new shiny toys to play with.

This year some hoped for a receipt of the continued slow and steady growth of the game, with more players and more buzz around it. But it seems like Guild Ball wasn’t quite as hot as anticipated. However, while the participant numbers for Guild Ball playing didn’t go up compared to last year, another thing stood out this year as a positive.
“A big improvement this year was where at the con Guild Ball was being played.”
It was in the main hall this year, which meant lots more foot traffic and eyes on the game. The fact that Guild Ball really is back. People were coming up and saying that they remember Guild Ball, which is always great. Many were happy to hear about the Lumberjacks and that we expect another new guild to be developed and so on.

Michal, who is one of the most well-known ballers in the online community stayed true to his tradition and had made some awesome widgets that he shared with all guildballers he met.
This one is a ballpath widget, to measure if a kick is affected by an intervening model or not, or if it can be intercepted when scattering and such. Great little tool!

I also saw a picture of Compound scoring a goal in a game at Adepticon, and such lovely wonkyness always deserves a shoutout.

All in all, it sounds like everyone who went there had a blast, and that even though Guild Ball was a small thing at this big con this year – we’re still continuing to grow and get people to realise that one of the best miniatures games ever made is still alive.
That’s all for now, see you on the pitch peeps!
