They’ll be surfing and dancing their way to your goalpost while you sink into the deep dark sea.
Shark is back, and his old teammate Sakana is also looking to surprise some opponents with a new trick up his sleeve.
Disclaimer: In all my 4.7 posts, I am very much open to that I might be wrong!
That’s part of the beauty of this game after all, and in general just in sharing any kind of hobby – to discuss all our thoughts about it.
Also, some that I have written may very well be coloured heavily by stuff that other great people have already discussed elsewhere, and in all such cases I can only bow and thank them for their wisdom. 😀

The premiere super-solo football captain has gotten several updates to increase his effectiveness. It’s been said that he finally feels like he did back in the old days again, and even though I hadn’t yet discovered Guild Ball back then (I started playing in Season 3 I think) I have a feeling I’d agree.
He just feels super efficient and fun, and I’m so much looking forward to trying a game with him in this version. His strategy is still the same linear aim as before, so he can still be negated by a skilled opponent, but with his new efficiency he looks like he will basically score whenever he likes.
His updated playbook makes a big difference, especially of course that his Tackle is now momentous.
The biggest change to him is of course Showboater. That he lost Stagger doesn’t really hurt him at all I think, because this updated playbook and his incredible new influence-efficient threat range lets him play exactly the way he wants to play.
Both his remaining character plays are unchanged in what they do, but Tidal Surge gets one inf cheaper and with Showboater they just really become something else. So assuming he’s got momentum he goes quick + sprint + tidal + shot = 23 inches of threat range for 4 influence. Add two momentum-generating attacks to that and new Shark feels really really dangerous.

The original Sakana has been a bit underplayed for a while. I think he was always cool, but usually his old version could seldom compete with the ball retrieval that veteran Sakana brings.
In this new version of oSakana with Netted he can fill a whole other role than just being a great striker. While of course the Fish really wants to be strikers, the fact that he can now bring something that no one else in the guild brings – that likely means the difference between having a spot on the tournament roster or not.
I hadn’t painted my oSakana model before, so now I’m making a conversion to have him have a fishing net somewhere there on him.
It will be interesting to see what the feedback on this change will be. He looks like he could enable a scrummier playstyle while still threatening a goalrun from the middle of nowhere. He can bring the good KD options to a lineup while retaining the speed to always threaten the ball. That combined with his playbook makes him feel like a modern and interesting model and no longer “just a striker” like before.
He can be a “tech piece” under any of the three fishermen captains, where he’ll probably have a similar function under Shark and Yukai, as a stable striker that also brings disruption midfield or as protection against scrummier opponents. Under Corsair this new oSakana might be an extra interesting new variable, going the other way around – I saw someone mention for eample that new oSakana can try to KD the whole enemy team off of the model getting dragged in, if the scrum is right. Then from there he can easily shift focus and be a goal threat.
He may often get hungry for influence though, which may be a problem depending on both lineup and matchup. But it’ll just be really interesting to see how well he does in the days ahead.
