The dark lord himself. Did he really die or did he manage to remain? Or was he resurrected?
Mechanically in this 2025 Balance Update, Obulus is very much looking alive – that’s for sure!
Disclaimer: In all my 4.7 posts, I am very much open to that I might be wrong. 😀
That’s part of the beauty of this game after all, and in general just in sharing any kind of hobby – to discuss all our thoughts about it.
Also, some that I have written may very well be coloured heavily by stuff that other great people have already discussed elsewhere, and in all such cases I can only bow and thank them for their wisdom.
Obulus

Just like I think is always the case with Morticians, they are hard to pin down and define. They are strange and scary. Without losing any of that, this buff to the dark lord of the pitch is fairly straightforward though. Puppet Master and Confidence gets more influence efficient, so on Obby who already has an influence stat like no other, it makes a big difference.
Other than this potent buff in efficiency, not much has changed about him. He will still be a menace, and likely play more or less the same way and just be able to do more.
I didn’t consider that Confidence works on kicks as well now, until I read the SFG blog post – and the thought of a goal run with Obulus is really intriguing. I haven’t seen him be able to do that back in the days, so it’ll be awesome to see now.
I also want to note here that Mourn might’ve been the more important Mort Captain to rework, rather than Obulus. She is still in a werid place, both in Morticians overall and in the game in general. She can do strong stuff, but is to strange to get to see barely any play as far as I can tell.
I think it’s safe to say that a rework of Mourn might have required more of the morts to change as well though, which is probably the reason why she was left out of this year’s Balance Update.
Anyways, I fully expect to loose against Obulus when I play New Hammer, when the dark lord will Puppet Master Hammer away from everyone just enough to negate his entire effectiveness. And I wont be able to help myself but to smile and nod, at a masterful stroke well executed.
Bonesaw

Card 4.7 above and 4.6 below, click to enlarge

Bonesaw is a divider, where some people already thought he was always very good, and some people wouldn’t ever recommend playing him, at least not in Morticians. He really gets changed quite a lot here, so we’ll see over time how that affects peoples’opinion of him.
He lost several things and I think his playstyle might change a bit now. He is still in the same role, a resourceful striker, and he retains his signature trait that he can move though other models’ bases. The name change to Wraith Walk feels on point, as Swift Wind felt more like it might’ve belonged in other guilds.
Dread Omen is interesting, and I have a hard time evaluatinig how strong it will be. I mean under the right circmstances, Bonesaw will very often be straight up TAC 7, and that’s pretty nice.
His access to KD brings a potential change in pace for both Morts and Rats, and maybe especially in Rats. I haven’t played either of these guilds myself, but I’ve played against them and Bonesaw getting KD access looks like something they appreciate. It will be interesting to see what people say about him going forward.
I don’t know, I think Rats should’ve gotten more in this update. That’s not Bonesaw’s fault of course though, and the changes to Bonesaw will be interesting to see in both Rats and Morts. But it bears mentioning that Rats could very well ave gotten more buffs without risking getting too powerful anytime soon.

All those tails and teeth. Scary.
But this is another fun set of buffs that change how the model works.
Scatter is buffed to also deal damage, that’s a nice perk. Noxious Death still does what it does, but no suddenly they’re actively aiming to take out themselves.
Charging and maybe dealing some nice wrap damage and getting some momentum, will often also result in a noxdeath, to deal lots of aoe damage.
I don’t think Verminthirst will be the most relevant trait, but it can still absolutely be a nice trick to survive when getting an actual kill from the rabid charging.
