While we’re under heavy guard to not reveal anything juicy (or anything at all of course) at least it’s no secret that the GBCP recently enlisted new playtesters including me and a big bunch of other Guild Ball enthusiasts, to try out and evaluate some of the upcoming new stuff.
While it can be somewhat daunting to be formally required to get a game in every two weeks, it also feels equally rewarding to be part of. So far it’s overall been both fun and interesting to be in on the discussions and see some of the design evolving. I’ve been into boardgame design a lot before, on a low hobby level, and I really enjoy game design thinking and discussing. But actually being part of playtesting is a new experience for me.
I obviously don’t want to hazard even the slightest hint of what or how or when, even though I’m SO stoked and would love to share, as you can imagine.
I’m writing this post mostly to tell that there’s lots of people who are working and discussing to bring everyone great new stuff, since it’s already been another month since last time we had that kind of post.
Still a lot going on behind the scenes, and it’s already been two months since the crossovers were finally released. I mean it’s super understandable that everyone wants the new toys we’re all longing for, but the fact is still that we’ll have to wait bit more for any official spoilers and news. I have no dates or anything like that, and will of course only share what I’m allowed.
Rest assured everyone, work is being done daily!
Honestly, the playtesters chat is an active place – we’re almost thirty people in the group. Playtest games are being played, reports are being posted and examined, statistics are being counted, and all of our wonky suggestions are being considered (I mean at least that’s what they tell us! ๐ ).
It’s already been a month since we got the message that our applications for playtesters were accepted. Tempus fugit.
Early on when being accepted as a GB playtester it actually did something unexpected with me; instead of my usual Hype Train gaining speed, the impostor syndrome hit really hard (constantly thinking “they’ll soon discover that I don’t fit in here” which is overall pretty common really) and for a while I was more disheartened and really stressed that I couldn’t get my first playtest game in, rather than being hyped about the whole thing. I’m used to it, but it hit harder than I anticipated.
I think I’ve had a dip overall, that’s been evident here on The Bench as well. It has been at least partly due to me losing step a little there for a while, not keeping up quite as much on discord and such. But after getting my first playtest game in (was the first actual game at all in a while to be honest!) and getting that first report submitted, it quickly turned back to being really fun as I expected. ๐ <3
After all, downtimes are natural in any hobby I think, and now it feels good to have more energy and hype for it all again!
I’m really really looking forward to seeing news publicly, and get to share and discuss with everyone.
But until then, just know that awesome things are very much in the works.
Matt and rich still need to apologize to the community. Their video earlier this year said that they are sorry about how we feelโฆ. No sorry for what they did
I do agree that what was done back then was really bad, in several ways.
I really really dont agree that it holds any relevance still today though.
The game is back in style and get continued development, communities are getting back together, and for me personally Guild Ball is still the best minis game I’ve ever played.
Staying away because of old bad blood helps no one really. So you Sir, get onboard the Hype Train, it’s warmer in here ๐
