The last three cards for preview before the official release!
We still don’t have a release date, but today I also got a shipping notification that my order is ready to ber sent as soon as we hit release date. Sooo we can safely assume that it draws ever closer!
If you haven’t already, get the preorder here https://steamforged.co/4iqQiSk
The shipping is very expensive unfortunately, but I think we need to start expecting that with the world being what it is these days.
Also have a look at the other posts about the new cards in the coming new Gameplan deck!
Here is a breakdown of all three cards that were previewed in this last teaser:
No guts, no glory
Initiative +4
Influence +2
Choose a friendly non-Mascot model on the pitch. The chosen model suffers 5 damage.
Boom! This is a strong card. And it can be used in two very different ways too, that are both strong.
- You can play it when you’re ahead and have a model with lots of HP to spare, so that you get both a relevant amount of bonus initiative AND extra influence – to stay ahead.
- You can also play it when you have a jailed model with 5 or less HP left, to free it. This in particular is the fantastic strength of this card. It might give your opponent 2 VP, but it also lets your model jog back in after gameplans are resolved and you allocate influence.
A situation where your opponent expect you to not be able to use that model the following turn, can swing suddenly and they can threaten a whole different part of the pitch, and be very relevant again out of the blue.
Thus, this card deals with one of the much debated situations of the game where it can be smarter to not get a takeout but leave a model on low HP going into next turn. This gets riskier now that this card exists, and it provides a way out when you face such a jail and need to get out.
Sidenote: An interaction I read about on discord that’s very specific, but relevant to know, is that damage reduction in the form of Touch Hide or Blessings of Old do not affect this damage.

Feign Injury
Initiative +1
Influence +0
Once this turn, when selecting a friendly model to activate, if there are one or more friendly models currently suffering the Taken Out condition that have not activated, you may force the opposing player to select an enemy model to activate instead. When you do, select a friendly model to recover 4 HP.
So this can feel like a weird one, and just the fact that it’s a wall of text makes it instantly harder to get into. But when wrapping your head around it, it’s not all that trixy.
Simplified it’s “You get a skip token” for activations.
When you want it, you get to “not activate” inbetwen two enemy activations to bide your time and strike when it benefits you more.
This isn’t always relevant, but it can be very relevant in situations where you want to get last activation in a turn – for example to get a strong action that puts the opponent behind on momentum towards the initiative for next turn.
The healing can of course also be very relevant when you need it. Remember that you get the healing when you activate the “skip” and not when you play the card, so models that have returned to the pitch this turn can be chosen, which might matter sometimes.
Personally I’ think ‘m not sure that it’s quite as strong an effect as to earn a spot at the +1 level of initiative among cards, but for competitive play it is very strong indeed.

Nowhere to hide
Initiative +5
Influence +0
Choose an obstruction, barrier, or forest on the pitch. The chosen terrain piece doesn’t provide the benefit of cover.
Simple but of so nice to have when you need it.
As an example of when it can be extra good, this card offers a solution to the problem of impenetrable bunkers around a terrain piece. Where one or more models go hide and hold the ball to let their teammates come after you and only go for takeouts. While negating cover might not get you all the way to reclaim that ball, it will absolutely help.

So what do you think about these three cards?
I love “spoiler season” in any games I play. 😀

A while after the physical deck has been released there will be free digital options to get the cards just like normal, promised by SFG openly. But at this time there is only the physical one that you get partly to be first with brand new physical stuff for the game, and partly to support the game we love.
Really looking forward to seeing all the other new cards being released!
Happy ballin’ everyone!
